Inaugurated in October 2023 and located in a revitalized bicycle factory in the heart of Ljubljana, the hub offers 8,500 m² of shared production space for professionals and amateurs. It features 9 production labs, 20 free-of-charge studios for creatives developing sustainable products, 5 residential apartments, an exhibition hall, shops for local designers, and indoor and outdoor public spaces open to everyone.
What is your motivation to participate?
As a young public institute dedicated to promoting digital fabrication, new technologies, and sustainability in product and production processes, we continually strive to incorporate new approaches in designing, planning, and executing projects for our users. We have partnered with the University of Ljubljana and various faculties, particularly those focusing on design, architecture, and creative technologies, including the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering. These partnerships enabled University to use our production labs for student seminars and collaborative learning spaces.
How do you see the potential of the project and the role of digital tools in fashion?
Digital tools have immense potential to revolutionize fashion by integrating sustainability with digital innovation. Advanced digital fabrication tools and techniques empower designers to create environmentally responsible fashion. The collaborative environment, supported by academic partnerships, fosters mutual learning and drives innovation in sustainable fashion.
How do you relate to the project’s aims of sustainability, inclusion, diversity?
In 2021, we launched the "Shared Spaces - Shared Futures" project, which focused on exploring how public spaces can be more inclusive and sustainable, particularly in a creative and cultural context. Supported by the European Cultural Foundation, this initiative engaged interdisciplinary working groups to address various societal challenges, such as participatory governance, the inclusion of migrants and refugees, gender equality in technology, sustainable urban development—Green Spaces of Center Rog, and systemic development of a cross-sectoral creative ecosystem. The outcomes from these efforts are intended to guide future operations at Center Rog and could serve as a model for other institutions.
